  1. Climate Change and Communities - Feb 2005
    Natural Resources Canada's Climate Change Impacts & Adaptation Office has announced a call for letters of interest for climate impact and adaptation research projects on Communities. The categories are:
    • Community case studies
    • Community planning tools and approaches
    • Economic impacts of different rates of climate change on infrastructure
    • Learning from past events
    • The roles of different levels of government in community adaptation
    • Hazard mitigation policies and robustness to climate change

Funding News for January 2005

  1. NSF Proposal Target Date Reminder:
    All programs in the Arctic Sciences Section of the Office of Polar Programs are due January 24th.Individuals wishing to submit a proposal after that target date must have prior approval from the cognizant program officer of the program to which they are proposing.   2. NSF Human and Social Dynamics:
    The National Science Foundation recently announced the second year funding opportunity for Human and Social Dynamics (HSD), an NSF-wide priority area that includes all NSF disciplines and fields. NSF expects to be able to support more HSD awards this year than it did in 2004, and to have a higher ratio of successful to unsuccessful proposals. [Complete Announcement]

  3. Student Travel Funding Available for Evolution 2005 Conference
    The Institute of Arctic Biology (http://www.iab.uaf.edu/) and University of Alaska Fairbanks (http://www.uaf.edu/) central administration have generously committed funding to assist graduate and undergraduate students presenting talks and posters at the Evolution 2005 Meeting, which will be held 10-14 June 2005 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.   4. GPS Support for NSF-OPP Arctic Sciences Research Proposals - Jan 2005
    In preparation for the upcoming National Science Foundation, Office of Polar Programs, Arctic Sciences Section call for proposals (January 24, 2005 deadline), we encourage all investigators who wish to use UNAVCO GPS support to contact us to discuss your project requirements.
